Dear Friend: As you may know I have had the honor of being nominated for the Congressional Gold Medal for my work relating to the Breast Cancer Research Stamp (BCRS). In 1996 I lobbied Congress for 2 years to introduce a bill which would allow the United States Postal Service its first-ever fund raising stamp. To date the BCRS through the sales of over 900,000,000 stamps has raised over $73,000,000 for breast cancer research. Congresswoman Jackie Speier has introduced a new bill, HR 6073, nominating me for the Congressional Gold Medal. I am asking for your support to get this bill passed, not as an honor to me, but rather as a way of further promoting the BCRS in the United States and around the world. By simply writing a short letter to your Congressional Representative asking them to cosponsor HR 6073 this could become a reality. Dr. Ernie Bodai, CEO of CureBreastCancer, Inc, and a Kaiser Permanente Surgeon, in a continuing effort to support research, led the all-volunteer, grassroots lobbying effort to create the Breast Cancer Research Postal Stamp. The money raised from the sale of the stamp is divided between the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department's Health Research Division, as called for by Congress. We have the 2007 GAO report on the latest fund raising results of the stamp that was presented to Congress. The report contains information on all three semipostal stamps that were issued for fund raising purposes. The report can be downloaded from our site in the Download section.
